PAPUADAILY –Ahead of the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON), the TNI, together with the National Police and the Institute of Domestic Education (IPDN) held mass vaccinations around the venues in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke, and Mimika. Interestingly, first the vaccine can enjoy warships at KRI Suharso or get basic necessities at the IPDN campus.
For information, vaccination coverage until Saturday (11/9/2021) in Jayapura City was 54.1 percent, Jayapura Regency 50.2 percent, Merauke 58.9 percent, and Mimika 53.3 percent.
Head of Public Relations and Cooperation Bureau of IPDN Arif M Edi said his party was specifically working with the Indonesian Navy (TNI) in holding vaccinations throughout Indonesia.
“We have full support from the TNI Commander. In fact, the support of 50 Navy personnel and 30 personnel from IPDN have been flown to Jayapura to become vaccinators,” Arif said in an official statement received by Kompas.com, Sunday (12/9/2021).
The implementation of vaccinations organized by IPDN and TNI AL will be carried out at two different points starting Monday (13/9/2021).
The first location is the Warship of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) Suharso which is leaning on the Port of Jayapura. The second location is on the IPDN Jayapura Campus which is in the Heram District.
“For vaccinations at the IPDN Campus, we will prepare buses and free groceries. Meanwhile, for the vaccination at KRI Suharso, the public can at the same time enjoy the sophistication of the Indonesian Navy’s warships,” said Arif.
Regarding the target, Arif stated that IPDN and the Indonesian Navy will continue to vaccinate up to 70 percent or the minimum standard for creating herd immunity.
“There’s a million more doses at our disposal,” he added.
The Papuan Regional Police Chief (Kapolda), Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, said the same thing. According to him, the TNI-Polri will continue to carry out “Vaccine Festivals” until the implementation of the PON begins.
Apart from the health side, the Covid-19 vaccination is needed because it is a requirement for people who want to witness the implementation of PON XX 2021 firsthand.
“Every day, there will be vaccinations. In fact, the implementation is door to door,” said Fakhiri.***
