PAPUADAILY –Diah Pramana Rachmawati Soekarno, who was also the Chairperson of the Persipura Jayapura Board of Trustees, died at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Central Jakarta, Saturday (3/7/2021) at 06:45 WIB.
The third child of President Soekarno and Fatmawati died at the age of 70. In mid-June, he was elected as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Persipura Jayapura. At that time, Rachmawati’s tears melted when she received the jersey numbered 27 from the team nicknamed Mutiara Hitam.
Rachmawati who is also the founder of the Soekarno Education Foundation (YPS) and Bung Karno University (UBK) was awarded the title ‘Mama Papua’ from a Papuan traditional leader in Jakarta because of her concern for education.
Rachmawati have told that at that time Bung Karno said that the development of West Irian could only be done by accumulating all efforts and energy, both morally and materially. West Irian is now known as Papua Province and West Papua Province.
“Actually, for a long time I have had the desire to work together with my Papuan brothers and sisters to create a peaceful and dignified Papua,” he said when asked to become the Chair of the Persipura Jayapura Board of Trustees in the Hall of Dr. Center, Monday (14/6/2021).
