Kominfo: Festival for You Land of Papua, Unite Indonesia’s Diversity

Kominfo: Festival Bagimu Tanah Papua, Satukan Keberagaman Indonesia

The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) held the Festival ‘For you, the Land of Papua’. This event is a series of Teras Negeriku programs through national dialogue activities and cultural performances from Sabang to Merauke. Information and Communications Coordinator of Defense and Security of the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) Kominfo, Dikdik Sadaka explained that this activity aims to unite the diversity of Indonesian culture, eliminate differences and strengthen brotherhood among Indonesian children.

“We connect the young Papuan generation with the youth in Yogyakarta. We communicate with each other through art and culture. Because we are all Indonesian,” said Dikdik at Sleman City Hall, Yogyakarta, Saturday (20/11).

“Papua must be close to the hearts of all of us,” added Dikdik. Meanwhile, a DPD RI member who is also a member of the Papua DPD RI Special Autonomy Team, Yorrys Raweyai, sees the need for a spirit of togetherness and complementarity between the Papuan people and people in other regions of Indonesia in general.

This senior legislator from Papua also emphasized that the government needs to build a national character, especially regarding issues in Papua. The government needs to convince the Indonesian people that Papua is an integral part of Indonesia.

“Papua is part of Indonesia. The commitment to the life of our nation and state is final. This kind of activity (the Festival for You Tanah Papua) is one way to bring Papua closer to all Indonesian people,” said Yorrys.

In this art festival, Kominfo brings together Papuans in Jayapura City, with residents in Sleman City, Yogyakarta. This activity was held on a hybrid basis, where young Papuan people who gathered in Jayapura City greeted each other via virtual with young people in Sleman City, Yogyakarta.
