PAPUADAILY – The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) is back in action to burn down a number of public facilities in Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, Papua, Monday (3/5/2021). They set fire to the Puskesmas building and school.
The facilities damaged by the action included 5 classrooms for the Mayubwri Elementary School, the teacher’s official residence, and the old Puskesmas house building which was used by the community as a temporary kiosk.
Not only buildings, KKB also damaged a number of road facilities, including Kimak Bridge, Tagaloa Street, and Wuloni Pintu Angin Street.
Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Pol Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said the action started at 11.30 WIT.
At that time the police received a report from the Head of North Ilaga District, Joni Elatotagam, that there had been arson in his area.
The burning started on Sunday (2/5/2021) around 22.30 WIT.
“As for the information obtained from Joni Elatotagam, he believes that when he was in Uloni Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, he saw thick black smoke coming from Mayuber Village around 23.00 WIT,” said Ahmad Musthofa Kamal in a statement received on Tuesday (4 / 5/2021).
The day after the incident, the Head of North Ilaga District arrived at Kimak Village to report to the Police.
Then, Joni Elatotagam received another call from another witness, if the Mayuberi SD building had been burned by the KKB.
“Joni Elatotagam took steps, namely on Monday, 3 May 2021, he visited the Puncak Police to report the matter to the Police,” he said.
Joni Elatotagam also said that three points, namely Jalan Kimak, Jalan Tagaloa, and Jalan Wuloni Pintu Angin were also damaged by the KKB.
“Apart from that, information was found that the road was excavated with a depth of 25-40 centimeters.
The damage, according to Joni Elatotagam, was likely to coincide with the burning of the Puskesmas Building and the Mayuberi Elementary School Building, “he said.
According to him, the arson and destruction of public facilities were carried out by quite a number of KKB sympathizers.
They are divided into several groups in carrying out the action.
“When the first group burned the Puskesmas and continued burning Mayuberi Elementary School, another group was tasked with destroying three points on Jalan Mayuberi, Jalan Kimak, Jalan Wuloni and armed groups on the side of the road to secure sympathizers working to destroy these public facilities,” he said.(*)
