Having an International Standard Venue, Papua Proposed to Be a Training Center for Eastern Indonesian Athletes


PAPUADAILY –General Chairman of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Marciano Norman proposed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to make Papua a training center for athletes in eastern Indonesia.

He said that because there are a number of venues in Papua that have international standards.

“If possible, for aquatic (sports) sports whose venues are international class. Athletes can be transferred here (Papua) for training,” said Marciano in Jayapura, Wednesday (13/10/2021). Quoted by Kabarpapua.co.id

According to Marciano, this good training ground will give birth to future athletes who are prepared to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. “I hope that the athletes who won gold medals in PON XX, they will be part of the team,” he said.

Marciano hopes that there will be cooperation between the Central KONI, the PON Grand Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to immediately discuss the continuation of the venues that have been built so that they can be well maintained.

‚ÄúThere are a number of international standard venues in Papua. I, as the head of the Central KONI, hope that this venue will not be repeated in cases such as the previous PON host which was not maintained, after that it did not use,” he said.

Marciano also asked KONI Papua to immediately pay attention to the existing venues, because the maintenance budget hopes for the region, so it must be planned carefully.

“I hope that this international standard venue, KONI Papua, must cooperate with the leadership of the sports branch, so that there is use of this good venue and organize various events,” he said. ***
