Former Regent Becomes Suspect in Embezzlement Case


PAPUADAILY –The police secured and named the former Keerom Regent, Papua, with the initials MM as a suspect for allegedly embezzling of inventory items at the official residence.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes AM Kamal, said that the Acting Secretary of the Keerom Regional Secretary with the initials DPP on March 30, 2021 reported that a number of inventory items at the regent’s official residence had disappeared.

The police then carried out an investigation and the state property turned out to be in the house of the suspect who previously served as regent for the 2018-2020 period.

“These items are now being secured at the Keerom Police Station to be used as evidence,” said Kamal, Tuesday (29/6/2021).

A number of items of evidence that were secured included one electronic rice cooker, one washing machine, six AC units of various brands, five sofa sets and others.

Meanwhile, the Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, said that the perpetrator had now been detained and was named a suspect in embezzlement.

“The suspect MM was detained on Monday (28/6/2021) night, currently MM has been detained at the Keerom Police Detention Center,” he said.

To investigate the case, his party is still conducting an in-depth investigation and examining a number of witnesses.*
