The Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Dudung Abdurachman asked TNI soldiers to be able to embrace armed groups to return to the fold of the Republic of Indonesia. Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Syarief Hasan also appreciated the statement.
He supported the statement of Army Chief of Staff General Dudung Abdurachman that the Papua and West Papua Armed Violence Group (KKB) were fellow countrymen and countrymen who needed to be embraced to be given enlightenment and internalization of national values and love for the homeland.
This will give a peaceful message that the TNI and the Papuan people are united, as is the philosophy that the TNI is the biological child of the people.
“What KSAD General Dudung conveyed should be appreciated. This will give a moral message to all TNI soldiers and the Papuan people that building Papua is to build a collective national commitment. The approach to Papua must indeed have a humanistic and persuasive dimension,” said Syarief Hasan in his statement, Friday ( 26/11/2021).
“This statement is proof that the TNI has a strong commitment to carry out dialogue efforts to bring the KKB rebels back to the motherland,” he continued.
Furthermore, the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs in the era of President SBY stated that this KSAD statement needed to be seen as another approach, such as and in line with the commitment of the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa during the Fit and Proper test.
This strategy is a new approach in an effort to maintain the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, which is the goal of all efforts made to uphold the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. These various persuasive measures may also be effective in suppressing rebellions carried out by armed groups in Papua and West Papua.
“I am of the view that the end of everything that is done is in order to maintain the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. The armed rebels are the sons and daughters of the Republic of Indonesia as well. Embracing, enlightening, and internalizing national values and love for the homeland is a step that should be followed up seriously. If this is done successfully, Papua will be at peace and the rebellion will automatically be quelled. I view the substance of the Army Chief of Staff’s statement as a commitment to peace and unity,” added Syarief.
Syarief admits that this step is not easy, especially if the acts of violence, killing and intimidation of the people by the KKB are increasing. The hateful narrative of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia built by rebel elements must be responded to with a counter-narrative that emphasizes the development of national insight and upholding the 4 pillars of nationality.
Therefore, this effort needs to be supported by all components and carried out in a sustainable manner. The socialization of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika must be carried out massively, systematically, and measurably.
“Socialization and internalization of the 4 pillars of nationality to the sons and daughters of Papua must be given from an early age. This is important to instill a sense of love for the homeland and national insight. If this is done continuously, I believe that the narrative of hostility and hatred against the Unitary Republic of Indonesia will not succeed. The people Papua is part of the Republic of Indonesia and embracing the rebels as stated by the Army Chief of Staff is a persuasive approach that should be taken seriously,” he said.
