After the Burning Action in Elelim District, Regional Police Send Troops Strengthening

PAPUADAILY –The Papuan regional police (Polda) will immediately send reinforcements to the Elelim District after the anarchic action carried out by a mass of supporters of the Yalimo regional head candidate, Erdi Dabi-Jhon Wilil.

“Tomorrow, the police will send 2 SST troops to help the Resort Police in anticipating similar incidents that will repeat themselves,” said Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, in Jayapura, Tuesday (29/6/2021).

As a result of the Constitutional Court’s decision to disqualify Erdi Dabi-Jhon Wilil as participants in the Yalimo Pilkada, a number of government buildings were allegedly set on fire.

The buildings that were burned included the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Office, General Election Commission (KPU) Office, BPMK Office, Transportation Service Office, Health Office, DPRD Office, Gakkumdu Office, and Bank Papua.

Fakhiri also confirmed that he would meet Erdi Dabi who was in Jayapura. He will ask Erdi Dabi to communicate with the masses so that they will no longer carry out anarchistic actions. “Tonight I will meet with the number 1 pair (Erdi Dabi) to calm the crowd,” he said.

As previously reported, after the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which disqualified the participation of the candidate pair for Regent and Deputy Regent Yalimo Erdi Dabi-Jhon Wilil, the crowd set fire to several government offices and kiosks in Elelim District on Tuesday (29/6/2021).

The crowd suspected of being supporters of the Erdi Dabi-Jhon Wilil couple also closed the road access.
