6 Chinese foreigners without passports arrested while dredging gold mines in Papua

TNI officers arrested six foreign nationals (WNA) from China in Waropen Regency, Papua, because they did not have passports. The arrests were made when the six were carrying out illegal gold mining activities in the Rent Village, Wapoga District.


The commander of Kodim (Dandim) 1709/Yawa Lieutenant Colonel Inf Leon Pangaribuan said the six Chinese citizens were detained by Koramil 1709-03/Warbah personnel led by Danposramil Wapoga Serma Dedy Setiawan, Sunday (21/11).

He explained that this arrest started from information from a resident who knew about gold mining activities by six foreigners in Kampung Sewa.

“After the Kodim personnel went directly to the field and got 6 foreigners, then continued the examination, but the foreigners were unable to show identification or official documents (passports) from their countries of origin. Then Kodim personnel brought the foreigners for questioning,” said Leon quoted from Antara, Tuesday (23/11).

He added, based on the results of the examination, the six Chinese citizens were named Ge Junfeng (48), Lein Feng (37), Yan Gangping (41), Tan Liguo (54), Tan Lihua (58) and Lu Huacheng (38) who came from China country.

“And they have just entered the 4th day of their existence in the Rental Village, Wapoga District, Waropen Regency,” he said.

Leon said that apart from not having official documents or passports, these six foreigners also did not have the ability to speak Indonesian.
