PAPUADAILY –A total of 24 members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2014-2019 term rallied at the Mimika DPRD Office on Monday (28/6). They demanded to be reactivated as a member of the Council.
In their action, they had closed the entrance to the Mimika DPRD office located on Jalan Cendrawasih SP2 by using a pile of sand.
They also put up a banner that reads ‘Inkraht’s decision has been made, then the Governor’s Decree Number 155/266 of 2019 On September 14, 2019 concerning the Inauguration of Mimika DPRD Membership is declared void by law.
They asked the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe to immediately make a decision so that development in Mimika Regency would not be disrupted.
Police officers who came to the location finally deployed heavy equipment to clean the pile of sand in front of the entrance gate to the Mimika DPRD office.
As a result of the blockade, none of the Mimika DPRD Secretariat staff and members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2019-2024 period have offices.
The 24 former members of the Council demanded to be reactivated after their lawsuit against the Papua Governor’s Decree Number 155/266/Tahun 2019 regarding the inauguration of members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2019-2024 period was granted by the Jayapura Administrative Court.
One of the members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2014-2019 period, Yohanes Kibak said that the blockade of the Mimika DPRD office was purely the aspiration of the former members of the Council, without being masterminded by anyone’s interests.
“We have struggled for 1 year and six months to demand our rights, and that has been granted by the court. We ask the Governor of Papua to immediately reactivate the old DPRD members for one year of service. The Mimika people remain calm, don’t be provoked,” said Kibak as reported by Antara.
According to Kibak, members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2019-2024 period who are still active at this time should not be active anymore. This is because the Supreme Court has issued a decision to reactivate the membership of the Mimika DPRD for the 2014-2019 period for one year.
For information, as many as 24 members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2014-2019 period sued the Papua Governor’s Decree Number 155/266/2019 regarding the inauguration of members of the Mimika DPRD for the 2019-2024 period.
The lawsuit was later granted by the Jayapura Administrative Court Panel of Judges with a decision Number 2/PEN.INKRAHT/2020/PTUN.JPR dated June 8, 2021
